The 2021 CEA Awards were established to recognize distinguished individuals and organizations in the Controlled Environment Agriculture Industry across North America. In this series we will be highlighting our winners and their accomplishments.

We are excited to announce the 2021 CEA Award winner for Health and Safety was awarded to Sudeshna Nambiar, Chief Operating Officer of Lakeside Produce.

In January 2020, Sudeshna led the Joint Health & Safety Committee and Compliance Department which formulated a contingency plan to mitigate the unforeseen risk of a pandemic. The team initiated sessions that educated people about possible COVID symptoms, based on the information available at the time. Sudeshna also created a special task force to anticipate and manage the risks posed by the pandemic.

Sudeshna’s strong educational background enabled her to better educate her team to understand the impact of the pandemic waves. She carefully wove several layers of protection into all of Lakeside’s facilities, clearly and consistently articulating the importance of abiding by the increased safety protocols. Her first layer of defense involved hiring additional sanitation staff to consistently clean high touch point surfaces to prevent potential contamination.

Sudeshna recently joined us for an episode of Artemis Live Talks available here.

Congratulations to Sudeshna Nambiar on receiving the 2021 CEA Health and Safety Award!
